The Life-Changing Power of Gratitude: 10 Surprising Ways It Can Transform You
Introduction
In this article, I am going to list 10 ways you can change your life for the better with the power of gratitude. Thinking positive thoughts and being thankful for our lives and all the beautiful things we already have, increases your joy and happiness, and brings more of what you desire into your life. Even if you don’t already have what you desire, thinking about that desired state of being and feeling the joy as if you already have it can bring it to you. This is the Law of attraction.
Having gratitude is thinking positively and lovingly toward something or someone. Your soul wants love and to be loved, so naturally it wants gratitude and to feel gratitude. It is your divine nature for you as a human being to want to feel love and gratitude. When you practice gratitude, you are practicing the Law of Attraction, which is a philosophy.
The Law of attraction states that “Like attracts like”. Many motivational philosophers, writers, and speakers have stated the fact that your mindset has everything to do with bringing what you desire into your life. It can be a conscious effort. If you decide to focus your attention on what you desire, you can make it happen.
If you see it in your mind. You’ll hold it in your hand.
– Bob Proctor
Below, you will find a list of 10 great ways to transform your life with gratitude and an explanation of each. In these ways, you can think, read, write, and feel into gratefulness.
10 Ways To Have Gratitude
1. Start a Daily Gratitude Journal
Each day write in your Gratitude Journal 3-5 things you are grateful to have. For example, family, pets, loved ones, friendships, a house, etc. Even if you don’t already have what you desire, write down that you are grateful for what is coming your way. Write in the present tense. Write positively, with joy and love. Be in a happy mindset when you write and be truly grateful. Example: “I am grateful for my loving family, my health, and the opportunity to pursue my dreams.”
2. Use Gratitude Affirmations
Repeat your positive gratitude affirmations daily, or even three or more times daily. Put sticky notes with your affirmations on them, in different prominent places where you spend time each day, like the bathroom mirror. This will remind you to say and repeat your positive affirmations. These gratitude affirmations help change your mindset and rewire your brain.
3. Express Appreciation to Others
Make sure that you tell other people you are grateful for them and why. Don’t just assume that they know it. Write thank you notes that express your gratitude.
“Silent gratitude isn’t very much to anyone.”
— Gertrude Stein
4. Find Gratitude in Life’s Lessons
Look for the lesson in difficult situations and be grateful for it. Sometimes life can be a major challenge, but there is always a lesson of gratitude in it for you to focus on. Perhaps someone did you wrong. Be grateful it did not happen to your children or other family and friends. Rise above anger and be grateful to be alive. Never let negative energy hold your focus because you will allow more negativity to be attracted to you.
For Example, the very reason I started this blog, this positive space, is because I allowed the news networks to take space in my brain. All the news stories are 99.9% negative because that’s what they sell. They sell shock, anger, and blood. I became angry, and that’s not what I wanted to be. When I recognized this issue, I stopped. It’s hard because you may not know you’re in it. Listen to others like your friends or loved ones for clues.
I stopped watching any news or reading any of it. If there’s something I need to know, I’ll find out. Then I started publishing only positive information online. Now, I am attracting positivity into my life again in the form of feelings, joy, laughter, and love. What a trade-off! Try it yourself! Don’t sell your soul to bad actors.
5. Practice Mindfulness and Being Present
Be aware of what is happening right now, this very moment. Appreciate the beauty of the earth, moments with people you love, yourself. Walk in nature and notice the glorious beauty all around you. Enjoy the little things in life and expect the best. Mindfulness brings about a deeper sense of gratitude.
6. Keep a Gratitude Object
Carry something in your pocket or purse that reminds you to be grateful. This could be a rock, a trinket, or a coin. Anything that helps you remember to be thankful. Each time you touch it repeat your gratitude affirmations. Make sure you put it somewhere you will see it or feel it often during the day. This will help change your mindset to gratefulness thinking.
7. Volunteer or Help Others
You will feel very grateful when you help others who need it. This one pulls directly into your heartstrings. Connection with others is important and when you are able to volunteer to help others, your soul feels joy, kindness, worthiness, and gratitude. Reach out and Volunteer.
“When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.”
― Willie Nelson
8. Spend Time in Nature
This does go with mindfulness, but it is so important it stands alone too. Find the time to walk or hike in the beauty of the natural world around you. Look up into tall trees and wonder how many years old they could be and what they’ve seen in their lifetime. Be thankful that they are alive. Wade through a small stream and be thankful for the clear clean waters. Walk barefoot in a grassy lawn or meadow and feel gratitude for growing things. Examine a flower up close and wonder about its creator. Watch the stars and imagine yourself flying to see them. There are endless sources of gratitude and wonder found in nature. Try it and be thankful you can.
9. Surround Yourself with Positivity
Spend time with positive and grateful people. Create a Gratitude Board with images and quotes that inspire you. Put it somewhere that you see and look at it often. Create a living environment that makes it easier to find appreciation in it. Put fresh flowers in a vase on the table. Unclutter and give thanks for your wonderful spaces.
10. Make Gratitude a Lifelong Habit
Commit to practicing gratitude every single day. Write, read, repeat, feel, and implant it into your mindset. Make it a part of your morning, daily, and evening routine. Over time, living in gratitude will become second nature and you will attract incredible positivity.
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
― John F. Kennedy
